Although this plant can thrive in partial shade, it requires a lot of sunlight, so be sure to allow it to soak up as much as possible by placing it under a bright window that does not receive direct sunlight.


If the top 2 to 3 inches of soil are dry, water Monstera Dissecta. The frequency will vary according on humidity, temperature, light, etc. Throughout the growth season, we water every 5 to 7 days, and every two weeks during the winter and fall.

Monstera Dissecta should only be watered during dry periods. In the winter months, the Monstera Dissecta should be kept alive. The water should not be placed directly on the leaves as that may cause rotting.


Monstera Dissecta love high humidity, with optimal levels being 60 percent to 80 percent. However, they can resist lesser amounts, even that in your household. 40 percent and higher is still good. If your home has very low humidity, find a means to raise it.

You may opt for a humidifier, a pebble tray, or spritz your plant a few times a week. Other approaches are putting these plants in a bathroom or together.


By covering the soil with perlite, you can add nutrients to the soil faster. However, a good mix needs to be used to ensure proper nutrition of the Monstera Dissecta plant. The best mix is composed of 1 part sand, 1 part peat moss, 1 part vermiculite and ½ part manure.


Monstera Dissecta should be repotted once every 2 to 3 years. Repotting should be done in the spring or summer, when the plant is dormant. If you notice any drooping or wilting, remove soil from the pot only to about ¼ of an inch below the soil line, and place a new mix of soil in.

Monstera Dissecta needs warm temperature of around 60-80 degrees. It can tolerate temperatures as low as 50 degrees if it is kept indoors, but in the winter keep your Monstera Dissecta above 60 degrees or the plant will probably die. Monstera Dissecta do best in a semi-arid area.


Monstera Dissecta should be pruned regularly to keep it from becoming leggy, or growing excessively and becoming weak from lack of sunlight. Monstera Dissecta tend to grow faster in the summer than they do in the winter.
