However, taking the cuttings might be the way to go if you are in a hurry or want to grow something more quickly. Cuttings from Fabian Aralia will root faster and produce more than when growing from seed.

During the summer, take softwood, or green-tip, cuttings from an aralia plant, using the top 10 inches of the plant. Remove most of the leaves from the stems and lay them upright in a damp, sandy soil container. After a few days, the stems will begin to root. Propagating by seeds;

• Take the seed, and remove it from its outer covering.

• The following morning place the seeds in a container loosely filled with moist soil. Cover with plastic film.
• Fill the container with enough damp sand to fill about halfway up, then add about 15 percent more sand (this allows for watering). Leave at room temperature for 5–6 days, then keep at a temperature of 65 – 80 degrees Fahrenheit until seedlings emerge (usually within a few weeks).
• Once the Aralia Fabian seedlings are ready to be transplanted, cut off all the upper portions of the stems and place them in a new container filled with damp sand. Keep at room temperature for one week for every inch of stem thickness.

Propagation by cutting;

• Take the stem from the leaf and place it, without removing the leaves, in a damp cloth. Cover with plastic wrap.
• After a few days, you should see new green shoots. Trim all stems back to 1/16″. If lower branches appear to be setting buds, take them back and cut at 1/8″ below the previous connection.
• Lay on moist sand until roots begin to form but not until tops appear.
• Transplant into containers filled with damp sand. Keep at room temperature for around 6 months.
• Continue to water and re-cut for about 6–8 weeks.
• After the first cutting, make a few more cuttings.
• The following year you should have multiple plants growing from your cutting.

Propagation by Division;

• Select a healthy, firm plant that has at least two-thirds of its roots intact. Dig up the root ball carefully to avoid damaging the remaining roots in any way.
• Remove any broken, dead, or injured roots and clip away dead or damaged leaves and stems.
• Place roots in a container of moist potting soil (not in water), then fill with soil and surround the root ball.
• Cover the container with a plastic bag, wrap it around the base of the pot several times and seal at the top with tape. Keep at room temperature until roots begin to grow. After about six weeks, you should be able to transplant it into your preferred container type — ceramic, cedar, or plastic.
• Maintain a temperature of 65 – 80 degrees Fahrenheit until new leaves sprout from the plant.
• Once the Aralia Fabian has sprouted, you can cut off all of its lower leaves and generally remove the rest of its stems.

How Often Should I Water Fabian Aralia?
